Alaleh Azhir
Executive Director
Meet our Co-Founder and Executive Director, Alaleh Azhir. Alaleh immigrated from Iran to the US at the age of 14. She majored in Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, & Applied Mathematics / Statistics at Johns Hopkins University, where she graduated with a 4.0 GPA. As a Goldwater Scholar, Alaleh has many publications in medicine and genomics in major national and international journals. She has done research at Harvard, MIT, the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Johns Hopkins and internationally-renowned institutions in Switzerland. In 2019, Alaleh was selected as one of the 32 students in the United States as a Rhodes Scholar to attend Oxford University, where she is now obtaining her Masters of Science in Statistics. Alaleh will be attending Harvard Medical School’s HST (joined with MIT) program this upcoming year.

Sepideh Kaviany
Vice Director of Operations
Meet our Co-Founder and Vice Director of Operations, Sepideh Kaviany. Sepideh studied mathematics at Farzanegan High School in Mashhad, during which time she earned 1393's National Chemistry Olympiad Silver medal. She came in 130th place in Konkour (Iranian University Entrance Exam) in first region, and 200th place nationally. She studied Chemistry at Sharif University in 1394 and started applying to graduate school programs in the 6th term. She was accepted to Ph.D. and Masters programs at Rice University in America, EPFL in Switzerland, and McGill University in Canada. She graduated with a GPA of 17.3. Throughout the application process, she took TOEFL, GRE and GRE Subject exams.

Ali Heidari
Admissions Consultant
Ali Heidari studied chemistry for undergraduate at Isfahan University of Technology (IUT), and applied for master’s in 2017. He was accepted at Purdue, McMaster, McGill, Copenhagen, and Western Universities, for his master’s degree. Following his graduation from Western University with a master’s degree in 2019, he applied for a PhD program and was accepted in the UC San Diego (UCSD), NYU, Princeton, Caltech, and Max-Planck Institute. He is currently studying at Max-Plank through the ESA fellowship. He’d be happy to answer as many questions as he can to help you throughout your application process.

Meet Henri Merino, our Vice Director of Information Security. Henri immigrated to the United States from France at an early age. He majored in Computer Science at the University of Maryland - College Park & has publications in computational biology as well as security & privacy. He is currently pursuing a PhD in computer science at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne.
